Natural, Sun-Kissed Glam

Happy Friday! Cheers to the freaking weekend has never been more accurate. The week started off a little cloudy and gloomy, but the sun is finally out and I’m absolutely living for it. I’m heading into the time of the year when I’m constantly out in the sun and just need an easy, natural makeup routine to complement my sun-kissed glow. I’ve been finding myself reaching for these specific products over and over again over the last couple of weeks and wanted to share this quick and easy routine with you. I guarantee you’ll glow brighter than ever. Soak up the sun, get your tan on and enjoy the weekend!

1. The first thing I always do is make sure that my skin is healthy and prepped. When I’m out in the sun a lot, my skin tends to be clearer (the sun is good for shrinking pores and drying out spots) but it also produces more dead skin. I make sure to exfoliate well using either the Kate Sommerville ExfoliKate or the Grown Alchemist grapefruit facial polish followed by the Clinique Dramatically Different moisturizing gel. I tend not to use any BB cream or foundation during the summer because I really like to let my skin breathe.

2. Once all that’s done I move onto the actual makeup part of my routine, which always starts with my brows. I’ve mentioned this product before and it’s become my holy grail brow product, but the Etude House drawing eyebrow pencil is an absolute god-sent. It’s so easy to use (seriously takes me like 40 seconds total to fill in both my brows completely) and lasts all day through classes, pool days, workouts and everything else. I’ll then go over that with the Benefit 3D browtones to set them in place.

3. For my eyes, I usually keep it fairly neutral with lot’s of shimmery bronze shades. I’ve been using my Tarte Passport to Paradise Palette for most of my eye looks. I’ll by buffing ‘seven wonders’ in to my crease line and then go back over that with ‘flaotie’ (a bit of a deeper shade). And then using my finger, I’ll go in with ‘cliff jump’, which is a beautiful orange-y shimmer, all over my lid. If I’m wanting to add a bit more shimmer to my outer lid, I’ll get a bigger blending brush and pop on a little bit of ‘bucket list’ in the outer corner of my eye. Just to keep it easy with the same palette, I’ll use ‘luau’ in the inner corner as quick highlight. On top of that, I use the Maybelline Stiletto liquid liner to finish it off with a mini wing. Nothing too dramatic, just to make my eyes pop a little more.

4. For my lashes, I start with the Tarte Lashy & Flashy curler and go over that with the Tarte Maneater mascara, both pretty much a staple for my makeup every day.

5. The last thing I put on is a bit of highlight, because I’m not actually going to sit out in the sun all day without any highlight on am I?! I don’t want anything too heavy duty, so I use the Fenty Beauty Match Stix in ‘yacht lyfe’ on my cheekbones and down the bridge of my nose. I don’t like using any colored lip products, but I’ll always put on a heavy duty lip balm which adds a little sheen anyways.

6. I don’t always love using a setting spray in the summer because I feel like some of them end up feeling tacky, but I’ve been loving going over all my makeup with the Trader Joe’s rose water facial toner. It’s a super light and refreshing mist that just amps up the glow.

And there we go, all glowy and shimmery and ready for a beautiful day out in the sun. Hope you all have the loveliest weekend and I’ll see you very very soon! xx

Go-To Makeup Products

Today’s post is going to be all about my recent favorite make-up/beauty products. I’ve spent the last few years growing my make-up collection and learning how to play with different colors and products, and I just wanted to share some of the products that I absolutely love. I’ll try to link as much as I can below, and will also link my Pinterest makeup/beauty board where I get a lot of my inspiration!

Face:

Moisturizer- I’ve used the same moisturizer for the last 2 years, and it’s the Curel Moisture Face Milk. It’s lightweight and not sticky, but is super hydrating. I always wash my face and use this before I start my makeup, and it works really well.

Primer- My favorite primer to use is the Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser. It does a really good job at blurring out your pores, and the foundation and concealer that I put on top of it goes on really smoothly.

Foundation- The Maybelline Fit Me Matte Foundation has been my go-to for a long time. They have a huge range of shades, so it’s easy to find your match. It’s a heavy coverage, but light weight and doesn’t make your face look too shiny (perfect for oily skin).

Concealer- Going along with the foundation, but favorite concealer is the Maybelline Fit Me Oil-Free Stick Foundation. I love stick concealers because I think they’re really easy to use and help you put it on precisely. Just like the foundation, it leaves a matte finish and covers blemishes and scars really well.

Eyes:

Eye Shadow- I’ve tried LOTS of eye shadows and tested out different palettes before, but my absolute favorite is the Naked Heat Palette. I fell in love with it the second it was released, and finally got it for Christmas last year. The shades are beyond stunning and the mix of matte and glitter shades make it really easy to put together different kinds of looks. I use this for my everyday makeup as well as fancy/fun makeup looks.

Mascara- I discovered my favorite mascara after receiving it in my Ipsy bag (check the link below to learn more about/subscribe to Ipsy) a few months ago. The PUR Cosmetics Fully Charged Mascara is one of the best I’ve ever tried. It’s super pigmented and high volume. Just one layer of it is really thick and noticeable.

Eye Liner- My favorite liner isn’t actually a black eyeliner, but it’s the Tarte glitter liners. I bought the three pack with rose gold, blue and gold, and I love them all. One side is a metallic liner and the other side is a glitter liner. I use the metallic side on my upper eye lid and the glitter side right over my eye shadow in the middle of my lid. They’re so stunning!

Cheeks:

Highlighter- I absolutely LOVE highlighters so I actually have three (I just can’t choose between them). The first is the Tarte Pro Glow Palette with 4 different highlighters. The second is the Fenty Beauty Match Stix in the shade Yacht Lyfe. It’s a rose gold-ish shade and I think the subtle highlight is beyond beautiful. I use this almost everyday. The last highlighter I love is more for crazy looks, and it’s the Fenty Beauty Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in the shade Trophy Wife. It’s a really bright gold, but goes on really subtly, especially on darker skin.

Blush- My favorite blush is the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush. I got this one in my Ipsy as well and absolutely love it. They’re super pigmented, so even just one swoop with the brush will get a lot on.

Bronzer- My favorite bronzers are the two in the Tarte Pro Glow Palette, one powder (shade) and one cream (sculpt). The powder one is beautiful and goes on and blends out really well, and the cream one is perfect for a good contour.

Lips:

Chapstick- I always use chapstick before putting any lip products on because I think it helps my lips stay fresh and the product last longer. My favorites are the Burt’s Bees Lip Balms. I love all the smells, but my favorites are Wild Cherry and Coconut & Pear.

Lip Gloss- My favorite gloss is the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb. It’s a bit on the heavier side, but settles in nicely and lasts for a long time. It’s has a really pretty sheen over lip balm.

Matte Gloss- My favorite matte gloss is the Kylie Lip Kit in the shade Candy K. My friend originally had this and when I tried it I knew I had to have it. I’m not a fan of bright red or pink shades, I prefer nudes, and I think this shade it perfect. I usually put on lip balm, then line the lips with the liner that comes with the kit and then fill in my lips with the gloss. I’ve heard from some people that the matte glosses crack, but I’ve found that using lip balm underneath stops it from cracking.

Brushes:

The best brushes I’ve ever used was from an It Cosmetics set. All of the brushes are super soft but do a really good job at blending, shading or whatever else you’re using it for. The set comes with brushes for your face and eyes, so you’re all covered.

February IPSY Bag- Unzipped

*This is not an ad, I just LOVE this brand*

I have heard about Ipsy for a while, and have been intrigued by it. But it wasn’t until last November that I gave in and subscribed. After getting my first bag, I was obsessed! I couldn’t believe that for only $10 a month, I was getting 5 brand-name products as well as a super cute little pouch. From Benefit to Tarte, my bags have been filled with products that I love. For those of you who don’t know how Ipsy works, you sign up and create an account where you can check all of the products, brands, shades, colors, etc. that you love, and Ipsy then puts together a monthly bag with 5 products that fit your preferences. Each month, they also choose a theme.

Today I wanted to share my thoughts on the February Ipsy bag and the products I received. The months theme was “unzipped”, which was all about feeling sexy and confident no matter what size, shape or age you are. As most of you know, I’m a huge advocate for positive body image and self love, so I could not have loved this theme more (especially during the month of Valentine’s Day). The pouch was light pink with black lace (super sexy;) and was filled with 5 products I absolutely loved!

1. Jersey Shore Cosmetics- Apple Harvest Hydrating Lip Balm

I was super excited when I saw this in my bag this month since I had just ran out of my favorite lip balm (and it’s winter so my lips are dying). The apple smell is super strong, but not too overpowering. Made with sunflower oil, beeswax, coconut oil and cocoa butter, it’s extremely hydrating (even with just one layer) and goes on your lips super smooth.

2. Pur Cosmetics- Mini Fully Charged Mascara

Mascara’s are one of my favorite beauty products, and I love trying out new ones. This Pur Cosmetics mascara is very pigmented and spreads your eyelashes out well. While no mascara will ever pass the Benefit They’re Real (will always be number one in my heart), this one is definitely coming in a close second.

3. Luna by Luna Cosmetics- Baked Highlighter in Electra

I had received a Luna eyeshadow in one of my previous bags and loved how it looked on me, so I was happy to get another one of their products. This came in a really generous size and was a stunning color! I tried this on right away and loved how smoothly it blended in. Since this is a baked highlighter, I put a tiny bit of liquid highlighter over it, and it was the most beautiful glow I’d ever seen.

4. Luxie Beauty- Blending and Shading Eye Brush 249

I had never heard of Luxie Beauty before, but I was in the need of a new eye brush so was happy about this. It’s a double sided brush, with one side for blending and one side for shading. The really soft tips makes it really easy to blend. Love this brand and I hope I get more products from them!

5. Make Up Forever- Aqua XL Eye Pencil in M-10 (Matte Black)

This products kind of intimidated me when I first saw it, but I actually really like it. It’s a fairly pointed tip, but soft, making it easy to use for blending. I wasn’t a huge fan of it for my bottom lash line, but I used it on the top for a smokey eye look, and it worked super well.

If you are interested or have been thinking about trying Ispy out, I highly recommend doing it! The subscription is super easy to navigate, but more importantly Ipsy does a great job at making it easy to skip a month or to cancel your subscription (I hate it when brands try to trick you into spending money by making it hard to cancel your subscription). Ipsy stands for so many things that we need more of in this world, and I can’t wait to support their business more and continue to get my personalized bags every month.

If you try Ipsy out, let me know what you think in the comments below!

Pamper Night Routine

One of my favorite things to do on the weekends is to have a pamper night. With crazy and hectic lives and schedules, sometimes it’s nice to just unplug and #treatyourself. I will link everything I use throughout this routine at the end of this post!

  1. I start by changing into comfy clothes, taking off all my make-up (currently using Garnier’s micellar cleansing water) and washing my face. I also like to “unplug” so I try to stay away from social media for the night.
  2. When I have one of these nights I make sure that I’m pampering the inside of my body just as much as my outside, so I try to make myself a healthy dinner (typically some pasta loaded with veggies and a huge glass of ice lemon water or unsweetened iced tea).
  3. With my dinner, I plop down on the couch and watch a couple episodes of a fun TV show (my go-to’s are Friends, Full/Fuller House, Modern Family and Young & Hungry).
  4. After I’m done eating, I head into the bathroom to get everything set up. I’m a lush fanatic, so I fill up the bath and pop a bath bomb (favorites are intergalactic and sex bomb) and half a bubble bar in. I also light some candles (Bath & Body Works!!) and turn down the lights. Right before I get in, I will put on my first face-mask of the night. While I’m chilling in the bubbles, I put on my favorite YouTubers. If I’m doing this during the holiday season, I’ll have a hot chocolate or a chai tea latte, but other than that I have an iced tea (because I live in the tropics and it’s hot!).
  5. Once I get out of the bath, I put on comfy PJ’s or a fluffy bath robe and take off my face mask and put another on one (I always do a cleansing mask and then a hydrating mask).
  6. I then head to my room and turn on my fairy lights and pineapple lamps and spritz my favorite room scents. If I want something to snack on, I’ll grab some fruit, but other than that I just keep drinking water. I also make sure to keep my skin hydrated, so I wash off my mask, and put lotion all over my face and body.
  7. One thing I really try to do on these nights is to meditate. I found this amazing app called InSight Timer, and it basically walks you through a meditation. I always find that I sleep so much better and feel super calm when I do this.
  8. And then finally, I crawl into bed and watch a little more YouTube before I get a good night of beauty sleep.

Sweat = Satisfaction

Do you ever notice those girls in the gym locker room putting on make-up before they go work out? They sit there for hours doing their blush perfectly and fixing their hair into the perfect ponytail that will be ruined in minutes.

hqdefault

Well I think it’s the most ridiculous thing. You’re at the gym to work out and not to impress or attract boys. Not only does make-up leave your skin dry and clogged, but you are going to sweat it all off within the first 5 minutes anyways. If you’re anything like me, you will be dripping 3 minutes into your warm-up. Although you may not have your eyelashes nicely curled and your foundation perfectly blended in, the sweat on your face is so much better. It shows the work you’ve put in; you are working hard in there, and that beats eye shadow and mascara any day. Personally, I love the way my face looks when it’s drenched in sweat. Okay, maybe it’s not that attractive, but when I look at myself in the mirror in between reps, and see the sweat pouring down my face, I feel good about myself.

imgres

I feel like I’ve done something meaningful; like I’ve really put the effort into what I was doing. When I’m done with my work out and I’m standing in the locker room in front of the mirror, I see nothing but my natural face covered in sweat. I might feel sticky and gross, but there is a level of satisfaction I have with knowing that I brought that sweat on. Once I’ve showered and washed the sweat off my face, I feel so good.

suar_2

Sweat does wonders for your face; it unclogs pores and gets rid of all the bad toxins in your body. Don’t block the sweat by putting on tons of make-up before hitting the gym. As long as you’re drinking lot’s of water and staying hydrated, the sweat will do wonders for your skin and make you naturally beautiful!

What Would You Change?

love-yourself-600x385

We live in a world where social media is the starting point for almost everything. This can be a great platform to raise awareness for important causes, or becoming reacquainted with an old friend. But while those are positives, the negatives can be extreme. Social Media opens up a door for anybody to say something (negative or positive) about somebody else. Sometimes this is anonymous, and sometimes it is not; but whether you know the identity of the person saying things about you or not is almost irrelevant. No matter what, hearing someone say or write that you have short legs, are ugly or fat is always going to make you begin to feel insecure about yourself. Everybody has their insecurities and they don’t need bullies out there making it worse for them. My big question is why these people write nasty things about other people, why do you even care what they look like when you don’t even know them? For some reason, people dwell on what other people think of them, even more than what they think about themselves. Isn’t the most important thing for you to be happy and feel healthy? With all of those body trends out there, it is impossible to have a body that everyone will think is perfect, and at the same time, there will always be something about yourself that you will not like. Why is having a gap between your thighs important, and why do your hip bones need to stick out when you’re lying out by the beach in a bikini? These body trends are not only unimportant, but they are unattainable by most people. I have never been the skinniest girl out there, but the important thing is that I am healthy and happy. I may not have a super toned 6-pack, but I can hold a plank for hours. I may not have a thigh gap, but I can do hundreds of squats and lunges. My hipbones may not stick out when I’m lying down, but I feel good in a bikini. It has never bothered me that I can’t be super skinny and have a thigh gap because that’s just not who I am and who I am supposed to be. So many people out there obsess over every little thing about their body that they forget what the most important things are. At the end of the day, you are not going to live longer because you have a thigh gap, you’re not going to find true love just because your hip bones stick out and you’re not going to be happier just because you have all of the body trends out there.

To all the body shamers out there, it isn’t necessary to hate on other people’s bodies, especially if you don’t know them. Accept them for who they are and their inner beauty. To those of you who are always trying to change things about your body, remember this; the most important thing about you is who you are on the inside. Your friends and family will love you for who you are, thigh gap or no thigh gap. Instead of always trying to lose your body, build on it. Maybe today you can only run 1 lap of the track, but make it your goal to make it to 2, then 3 and 4. As long as you are happy and feel good about yourself, then there shouldn’t be any reason for you to listen to the haters out there. Love yourself for who you are, and the world will do the same!
