April & May Favorites 2019

Hello lovely friends! Hope you all had a FAB weekend. These last couple months have absolute FLOWN BY… so much so that I totally dropped the ball on monthly favorites. But we are back here today doing a little catch up on all my favorites from the last few months. Enjoy and I will talk to you again very soon! xx

Skincare Product- Now that its summer and a little more humid (especially now that I’m back in Asia), I’ve been living more lightweight moisturizers. My go-to is typically the Clinique moisturizer, but during these summer months I’ve been loving the Curél Moisturizing Milk. It’s so lightweight but still very hydrating.

Makeup Product- I’m not usually a blush person, but lately I’ve been using the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush pretty much everyday. I love that it gives me a little rosy glow without being too much. It’s such a great addition to a neutral and natural makeup look.

Haircare Product- I think I’ve talked about this before, but I’ve been using the Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti-Frizz Serum a lot lately, and I’ve been loving it. It does such a good job at keeping your hair healthy and hydrating while still leaving it so radiant. And it’s such an incredible product and SO affordable.

Clothing Item- I found this really cute romper from Top Shop (can’t find the link:() at Saks Off Fifth on Black Friday and I’m so glad it’s finally summer and I can wear it now. It’s such a fun outfit that can be dressed up or down and can be worn for seriously any occasion. It’s just so fun and flirty.

Shoes- I just finished a month-long internship and was living for these SODA black espadrille platform sandals. They are SO cute and comfy while still looking put together and progressional. They’re so comfortable and could literally walk around in them all day without anything blisters. And best of all, gives you height!

Accessory- Since I was working this past month, I was wearing jewelry every day. My Return to Tiffany bracelet with the little blue heart has been my go-to every single day. It’s a very minimal piece that still makes a statement with the pop of blue.

Restaurant- Since I was able to spend the month of May back at home in Singapore, I was able to go back to all of my favorite SG spots. Lantern at the Fullerton Bay Hotel has always been one of my favorites. They have such cool and different drinks with the most s t u n n i n g view of the most beautiful part of Singapore.

Sweet Treat- When my sister and my mom came and visited LA a couple months ago, we went on a food tour around LA (not actually, but kinda haha) and of course HAD to visit Bumsan Milk Bar in Koreatown. They have amazing soft serve in a cereal cone and it’s the most decadent and delicious thing ever.

App- I love games and apps that can give me something mindless to do since I get distracted and bored really easily, and I found the game 1010! Color the other day (FREE!) and I’ve been pretty much playing it every free second I have.

Movie- This is definitely an older one, but for some reason I’ve watched Friends With Benefits four times in the last two weeks. It’s just such a fun and easy movie to watch on a lazy afternoon. But I also watched the new Always Be My Maybe on Netflix the other day and it was so good! Definitely did not disappoint.

TV Show- I love David Chang and all of his shows, and I’ve found myself rewatching all of his Ugly Delicious episodes lately. I’ve seriously seen them all at least three times and can’t wait for the second season to be out.

Song- I don’t know if a lot of people know this, but absolutely LOVE country music. It’s pretty much all I listen to. Jake Owen sang one of his new songs, Made For You, on last weeks episode of The Bachelorette and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since.

Summer in Moments- 2018

As we are quickly approaching the last couple weeks of (official) summer, I just wanted to put together a quick little blog post of my highlights from the summer. I’ve been back at school for a week and a half now an reminiscing about all the fun times and wishing I was still sitting by the beach and soaking in the sun. I hope you all enjoy this post and please comment some of your favorite summer moments down below!

1. Internship in Singapore- I was extremely lucky to be able to go back to my high school in Singapore for the last 5 weeks of their school year and intern with one of the programs I fell in love with. I was able to work directly with teachers and was even given the ability to run a few of my own classes and activities. Being a teacher is something that means a lot to me and this opportunity only made me realize my dream even more. It was amazing to be able to work directly with students and to learn so much from the teachers who were gracious enough to mentor me. I started my internship the day after school ended, and although it was difficult at times it was also an incredible experience.

I don’t have a real photo so please enjoy this mirror selfie from my first day at work.

2. Food adventures back home- While I was working, I also had so much time to relax in Singapore and spend time with my family. And of course, a lot of our time was spent eating at our favorite places (and some new places) around the island. I only put 5 photos in this post because if I put all the photos in you would be here forever. As you can see (here and on my Instagram: @swimeatlove) I had a lot of Asian food simply because I was craving it SO MUCH after being back in LA for a semester. I honestly can’t pick a favorite or highlight meal because everything I had was so good. But I loved that I was able to enjoy a fine dining meal (at Level 33) as well as a simple food court meal of chicken rice.

3. Beach getaway in Phuket- I wrote a whole big post on my trip to Phuket, so I’m going to keep this one short and sweet (but go check out the other post if you want to see more!). Most people already know this about me, but I’m obsessed with the beach, so getting to spend a few days in one of my favorite places with my family was definitely a highlight for this summer. We were all able to just chill and lounge around by the beach or pool sipping on mojitos and pina coladas- it was perfect! We stayed at our favorite resort (Le Meridien, Phuket) and loved the food, the spa and of course the private beach and sprawling pool. We got to go out to the town each evening and explored the area and ate at some of our favorite places around Phuket. It was the perfect summer getaway.

4. Lake days- After all of the fun times in Singapore, and a chaotic international move, we finally got back to some stability by spending over a month at our family lake house, which we do every summer. Nestled in between the mountains, the serene lake is by far one of my favorite places to be. There are so little distractions (we just got a flushing toilet last year and wifi this year!) and it’s just so peaceful. I spend the days lifeguarding and hanging by the lake, and then we spend the afternoons looking for the best and freshest summer produce which we then use to make fun, summery meals. We have game nights, do BBQs and have fun with fireworks and sparklers and it’s seriously the best thing ever. I look forward to being back at the lake the day after I leave. It’s the absolute epitome of summer.

5. Adventuring Tokyo- After leaving the lake for the summer, I was able to spend a full week back in Tokyo (which also happens to be our new home). While we spend time in Tokyo every summer, this year it was all about finding the comfort and familiarities of the city that would help to make it feel like home. We did some of the things we love to do (shopping in Shibuya, eating at our favorite restaurants), but we also did some things we’d never done before. Of course we discovered some new restaurants that will definitely be added to our go-to list, but we also did some fun new things like going to the summer festival (matsuri) in Azabu Juuban and exploring the neighborhood around our new house. I loved being able to spend my last week of summer with the people I love doing what I love (basically eating and traveling, haha!).

I hope you all had as good a summer as I had. It was by far the best one yet. Enjoy the last little bit of the warm weather and I hope ya’ll are getting excited for fall!

Prosciutto Wrapped Grilled Figs- Recipe

This recipe is one of my favorites to make during the summer. It’s everything you want in a few bites. Salty, sweet, bitter, sour. All you need are some good figs, honey, prosciutto, balsamic vinegar and pepper. Read more down below to find out how to make this super easy yet delicious summer dish. Enjoy!

  1. Wash your figs lightly and then cut them in half, longways.
  2. Brush the inside of the halves with a little bit of honey, just enough to cover it all.
  3. Put the figs in a pan with a little bit of butter and cook on medium for about 8 minutes, or until the honey begins to caramelize.
  4. Once the figs are cooked, let them cool for about 10 minutes then wrap each half in one piece of prosciutto.
  5. Right before serving, drizzle a tad of balsamic and crack a bit of pepper over the top and your summer appetizer is all good to go.

Summer Pamper Routine

One of my favorite things to do on a chill summer evening is to get a little pampering done. After spending the whole day out in the sun or in the water, it’s nice to have a little “me time” to relax and unwind. I have a bunch of new products that I have been absolutely loving lately, so I’m really excited to share them with you!

I always start a good pamper sesh by getting nice and clean in the shower. I like using the Hello Hydration Herbal Essence shampoo and conditioner which is filled with creamy coconut. Not only does it leave my hair feeling healthy and silky, it’s also the epitome of summer smells. I then go in with my Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! deep conditioning hair mask. I first got this product in my FabFitFun box and instantly fell in love with it. While I leave the mask in my hair, I’ll use the Eos Shea Butter Shaving Cream to get my legs all nice and smooth. Another products I got in my FabFitFun box that I love is the Kate Somerville ExfoliKate cleanser, so I’ll use that on my face. Once I’m done with all that, I’ll either sit in the bath with a Lush bath bomb for a little bit (if it’s a cooler day), or get out and get dry. If I do take a bath, I’ll either listen to a podcast or watch some YouTube. At the moment my favorite podcasts are Almost Famous with Ben Higgins and Ashley Iaconetti, and Jonathan Van Ness’ Getting Curious. My favorites to watch on YouTube are Zoella and her vlogs, Kelly Strack and Jess and Gabriel vlogs.

Once I’m out and in some comfy clothes, I like to run the Garnier Fructis sleek and shine leave-in conditioner and the Marc Anthony Coconut Oil and Shea Butter Oil through my hair to give it some extra shine. If it’s really dry, I’ll add the Marrakesh Argan Oil to that routine. I then use either the Jergens Ultra Healing Moisturizer or the Bath and Body Works Japanese Cherry Blossom lotion all over my arms and legs. After that, I’ll put on a face mask of some sort. If I want to clean out my pores, I’ll use some Indian Healing Clay mixed with apple cider vinegar, and if I want to hydrate I’ll use the Neutrogena Hydro Boost sheet mask. To moisturize my face, I use my Celavive Vilatizing Serum and the Tarte Maracuja Oil.

One of my favorite things to do anytime of the year is to give myself a nice little mani-pedi. I usually have my nails done already, so I start by taking off the polish and cleaning/cutting my nails to get them prepped. During summer months I love doing pastel yellows and blues, bright pinks and whites on my nails (I almost always use OPI). If I’m going to go the extra mile, I’ll head out and treat myself to a real mani-pedi from a nail salon.

Another way I feel super pampered is by eating and drinking really clean. If I’m going to detox my outside, I also want to give my insides a little detox. In the summer I love drinking super icy water with lemon; it helps me feel fresh and clean. I also love Mugicha, which is a Japanese barley tea (not caffeinated) which is really refreshing. Another must have for the summer months is a lot of fresh fruit. I eat an endless amount of watermelon, peaches, cherries and lots of berries which always makes me feel like I’m cleaning out my insides. Salads are another favorite for a light dinner.

I hope ya’ll enjoyed this post and are soaking in the last little bit of summer. Please don’t forget to follow this blog and also check me out on Instagram: @swimeatlove.

Talk to you soon!! xx

Phuket Travel Diary

Living in Singapore, long weekends would typically consist of a quick trip to paradise, Phuket. Going about once a year for a while, it’s become one of our home away from homes. After our last trip, I decided it was finally time to sit down and share all the things I love about Phuket with all of you. I will leave all the links down below and hope you venture out to this little gem of an island in South East Asia!

Hotel:

After staying at a bunch of different hotels and resorts, we finally found our favorite and go-to place to stay: Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort. While it is about an hour drive from the airport, the resort sits only ten minutes away from the downtown area (Patong and Karon) making it super easy to get around. The resort is sprawled out over a huge piece of property with it’s own private beach, tennis courts, an amazing spa, two tropical pool, multiple eateries/bars and stunning, comfortable rooms. While the rooms may be a little older than others, they’ve been kept really well and feel modern with a vintage twist. The private beach is only a few steps away from the pool area and are lined with lounge chairs and bean bags, while crystal blue water and really clean sand. They offer a range of water activities from jet skiing to kayaking and surfing. In the middle of the day when you’re looking for a quick bite, you can just head over to Ton Son out by the pool to order anything from Thai to Italian and American. You can also head over there for before-dinner drinks where they offer classic cocktails as well as tropical/Thai cocktails. One of my favorite things at the hotel was the energizing shots they had at breakfast. Every morning they had a couple different kinds to really get your body working and wake you up. My favorite was the watermelon-chili shot which was just to die for. And what’s a trip to the beach without some relaxing time at the spa? Le Spa offers different treatments from massages to scrubs and facials, all beach and tropical themed. Our time at Le Meridien is always made even better by the super friendly and helpful staff. We absolutely LOVE staying at Le Meridien and cannot wait to spend more nights there.

Food:

Like I mentioned above, the food at the hotel is not like any others. It’s very different and authentic, but still really good. However, I love spending time around Patong and Karon exploring other places to have meals. One of our all time favorites is Eat. Bar & Grill in Karon. Priding themselves on incredible service and hearty, rustic food, the little bar/restaurant serves burgers, steaks and other unique dishes. After going there four times over our past two trips, I’ve had some of my favorite dishes there. Some that I would recommend are the burger and fries, the chateaubriand (steak), the beef tartare, the lobster cappuccino, and most importantly the mojito bucket (5 servings of a mojito in one big bucket, photo below). This year we also went to Baan Rim Pa, which is one of the only “fine dining” restaurants in Phuket serving authentic Thai food. We had the chicken and crab Thai dumplings, grilled eggplant salad, minced pork with noodle crackers, green curry with chicken and stir-fried morning glory, and a really good passion fruit mojito. The food was all really good and some of the best Thai food I’d ever had (and I’ve had a lot of Thai food). Other than those two places, we also love going to different seafood restaurants along the water front and trying different dishes. As most of you know, my family LOVES food and one reason we love going back to Phuket so often is because of the huge variety of amazing restaurants to chose from.

Getting Around:

While you can have your hotel arrange a car/transport for you, one way I love to get around is by taking a tuk-tuk. A tuk-tuk is motorcycle powered vehicle with seating for passengers attached to it. They’re commonly found around South East Asia and are open air. I love driving back to our hotel at night after dinner with the wind blowing through my hair and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore in the background. Depending on where you flag one down, a 10-15 minute drive can be anywhere from 10-12 SGD, which may seem a bit pricy but is normally much less than having your hotel arrange transport for you. If you are around Patong or Kata beach, it’s really easy to walk around. Whether you’re beach hopping or looking around the market, I always say that walking around is one of the best ways to explore a new destination. And the excitement of Phuket nightlife makes the evening a lot more fun and interesting.

What I Wore:

When I go to the beach, my absolute must-have is a ton of bikinis. I love mixing solids with solids and solids with prints from different brands. Some of my favorites for bikinis are Cotton On, Victoria’s Secret (now Pink), She In and Hollister (and Jolyn for suits that won’t budge). I don’t like wearing the same suit more than once a trip (I know, I’m a snob), so I love having variety in my suitcase. In addition to suits, I wear all different kinds of cover-ups and summery rompers and dresses that work at both the beach and a casual meal out. For sunglasses, I personally don’t love wearing nice/high-end glasses at the beach because I love spending time in the water and body surfing waves so I’m always paranoid that I’m going to lose a nice pair. I typically have a couple cheap pairs of Cotton On sunglasses that are perfect for the setting and look bomb in all those insta photos. For a more in-depth look, check out my summer beauty post (linked below)!

I always love a good beach getaway, and Phuket is the perfect destination for a stress-free and relaxing weekend away. Have you been to Phuket? If so, what’s your favorite thing to do there? If you haven’t what’s your favorite beach getaway destination? Comment down below!

I hope you all enjoyed this post, and I will talk to you soon!

My Summer Beauty Post

Summer Beauty

It’s finally that time of the year where we’re all whipping out our bikinis/suits and headed to spend time at the beach, the lake or even just by the pool, soaking in every ounce of sunlight in hopes to get that perfectly sun-kissed skin. Today’s post is going to be all of my summer beauty tips and go-to’s to get you looking fresh, relaxed and glowing. Under each section I have linked some of the products I have been loving this summer. Happy summer!

The Perfect Tan:

  • Prep the canvas- If there’s one thing I love more than anything, it’s having beautifully tanned and glowing skin. It’s taken me a while to figure out how to keep my skin healthy and hydrated while still deepening the color, but I finally figured out what works for me. Before I begin spending time out in the sun I always exfoliate. Using either a scrub or a loofah works, as long as you are getting rid of the dead skin cells. If you go out in the sun with lot’s of dead skin cells, you will likely peel easily. But having freshly polished skin is the perfect canvas for a beautiful tan.
  • Protect, protect, protect!- One thing that took me a long time to learn was that sunscreen actually helps to preserve a tan. I know a lot of you already know that, but I always thought that sunscreen avoided a tan, but it actually just avoids getting burnt and helps create a more even tan. If you’re spending a long time out in the sun, be sure to reapply every 60-90 minutes, and maybe even more frequently if you’re in the water. And don’t forget how dangerous direct UV rays can be; protect yourself while looking gorgeous!
  • Hydrate inside and out- After a day (or even a couple of hours) in the sun, your skin will be dying for moisture. Use a cooling aloe vera gel or a deep moisturizer all over your body and let your skin drink it up. I’ve been using the Celavive skincare line for my face while I have been obsessed with (link to purchase is down below!). Along with hydrating the outside, don’t forget the power of hydration from the inside. Load up on water and you’ll be feeling hydrated all around.
  • Elevate your tan- If you’re looking to get that extra glow, maybe for a night out or brunch with the girls, use a temporary tanning/glow spray. I like to just add a little bit to my arms and legs to elevate my tan and help my skin look extra glowy.

Hair & Make-Up:

  • Natural with neutrals- During the summer I always keep my make-up super minimal. I tend to gear towards the browns and golds and look for face products that leave me with a dewy look. Some of the products I’ve been using are the Tarte Leave Your Mark palette which has beauty neutrals in a mix of mattes and shimmers, the Fenty Beauty Match Stix in Yacht Lyfe, and the Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes. I typically don’t use anything on my skin, but if I do I’ll reach for a light CC cream or a tinted moisturizer over a high coverage foundation.
  • Spritz it up- For my hair, I like to have that messy and care-free (but still cute) look. I do a lot of half-up buns, messy buns and beach waves to keep my hair bouncy and voluminous, but out of my face. The Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe texturizing hair cream and sea salt spray have been my absolute go-to’s over the past few summers. Just spraying a little bit or combing some through damp hair allows your hair to dry with that satisfying feeling of salt water in your hair without drying it out. Put that together with a stunning tan and your look will call beach bum all the way.

Pamper:

  • Treat yourself- Another thing I love about the summer (other than the sun, the beach, the food and almost everything else) is the care-free attitude that comes along with it. With longer days and less to do, I love spending some time to have a little pamper sesh. Whether it’s getting a cute mani-pedi (pastels are great for summer!), taking a bath with a Lush bath bomb (I love Sex Bomb during the summer), or as simple as putting on a face mask, it’s so important for you to take some time to take care of yourself (and your skin will thank you too!).
  • Take it up a notch- If you can afford the resources, step it up a notch and treat yourself to a summer-friendly spa treatment. Look for a body mask/treatment that is meant to hydrate your skin. Last week when I was in Phuket, I got an Aloe Vera Body Treatment which was meant to re-hydrate skin after being out in the sun and to help retain your summer glow. It worked wonders for me and helped me look radiant for days after (and I didn’t peel!). A summers day at the spa will leave you feeling extra relaxed and oh-so pampered.

Style & Fashion:

  • Bikini season- I LOVE a cute bikini combo, and I’ve found over the years that the way to find the perfect pair is to mix and match. Mixing solids or mixing solids and prints is an easy way to step up your bikini game so you’re looking cute and fresh at the beach. As well as mixing prints, I like to look at different stores and brands for a bikini pair. I often times find the cutest matched when mixing brands. Don’t be afraid to try something different and bold, a little bit of sunshine and the beach in the back can make anything look adorable.
  • Cover-ups- My wardrobe in the summer typically consists of a few shorts, a couple tank-tops and a TON of cover-ups. They’re super easy to slip on over a bikini before a day at the beach or pool, but they can also be dressed up for a casual summer outfit. I love playing with bright colors since you can typically get away with that during the summer, and also playing with different styles. Whether it’s a low back, a deep V or cut sides, I think cover-ups are the best way to get away with anything.
  • Dress it up- Going out for a night or want to wear something a little nicer? One of my favorite things to do it to grab one of my Dad’s aloha/printed button-up shirts and tie it at the bottom to make it a crop. I’ll pair it with some white jean shorts and it makes for a super cute summer outfit. It’s a little more dressed up but still screaming summer all the way.
